Before Jesus went back into heaven, he gave his followers an important mission: “Go and make disciples of all nations.”
These words, called the Great Commission, remind us that Jesus wants all people to hear the good news of salvation.
When we think about sharing the gospel, we might picture missionaries traveling to distant countries or pastors preaching at the front of church. Those are wonderful ways God’s Word is shared.
But Jesus also gives Christian families opportunities to share the gospel much closer to home. Literally!
In fact, one of the first places the gospel is shared is within the home itself. Parents teach their children about Jesus. Grandparents tell Bible stories. Siblings encourage one another with God’s promises. Family devotions, prayers before meals, and conversations about God’s Word are all ways the message of Christ is passed from one generation to the next.
As families grow in faith together, God also opens doors to share that faith with others. Friends, neighbors, classmates, coworkers, and relatives may not know Jesus as their Savior. So sometimes sharing the gospel is as simple as inviting someone to church, telling them what Jesus has done for you, or offering some comforting from the Bible.
Remember though, the good news we share isn’t about ourselves. It’s always about Jesus, who lived, died, and rose again to save sinners. Through him, forgiveness and eternal life are offered to all people.
