Facing temptation as a family.

Temptation doesn’t just show up in big, dramatic moments.

It creeps into everyday family life. A child is tempted to lie to avoid trouble. A sibling is tempted to lash out in anger. Parents are tempted to lose patience, hold grudges, or worry instead of trusting God. Satan knows our weaknesses and loves to use them against us.

That’s why God gives families this comforting promise: “God is faithful.” Notice where the focus is: not on our strength, but on God’s faithfulness. On our own, temptation often overwhelms us.

But our faithful Savior never abandons his people in our struggles.

The Apostle Paul reminds us that temptation is “common to mankind.” That means we aren’t alone when we struggle. Every Christian family faces battles with sin. But God promises that temptation will never place us beyond his help and grace. He always provides “a way out.” Sometimes that way out is walking away from a situation. Sometimes it’s remembering God’s Word. Sometimes it’s a Christian family member encouraging us to do what is right. Always, the way out is found in Christ, who resisted every temptation perfectly for us and forgives us when we fail.

As a family, encourage one another to turn to God in moments of temptation. Pray together. Speak God’s promises to one another. Remind each other that Jesus is stronger than Satan.

No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.

1 Corinthians 10:13
