Human beings are emotional creatures…some of us more than others.
but we all feel many different emotions. One of the most complex emotions we feel is worry. If you’re worried, you might have a sense of dread – like something bad is going to happen. Maybe your worry comes with a side order of anxiety or nervousness. Worry can even cause your heart to pump faster or your muscles to tense up without you even realizing it.
Not only is worry a complex emotion, but there are so many things you could worry about! Kids might worry about a bully at school, a project that’s almost due but not almost done, or an upcoming competition. Adults might worry about family finances, career choices, or the personal safety of loved ones.
There’s a lot in the world that you could worry about and it’s easy to get caught up in worries. So sometimes we just need to be reminded of who’s in charge and what he says.
So who’s in charge of all these things we worry about? God!
And your heavenly Father knows what’s worrying you. More than that, he knows your needs and he promises to take care of those needs. You can trust that he will, because he’s already taken care of your greatest need. He sent his son Jesus to pay for your sins, so you can stand before him completely blameless through faith in your Savior. If he was willing and able to meet that need, of course he will take care of all your other needs too. So, no need to worry. Instead, seek after God’s kingdom. Seek his promises to you in his Word, and trust that he’ll take care of the rest.
So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”
– Matthew 6:31-33
