The Lord’s Supper & Family Hope

Have you noticed that our world is filled with symbols?

A heart emoji means love. A team logo means loyalty. A photo remembers a moment. But none of those things actually do anything. They only point to something else. The Lord’s Supper is different.

When your family comes to the Lord’s Table, this is not a symbol of Jesus’ love. It is Jesus giving you his true body and blood – the same body given into death, the same blood poured out for the forgiveness of sins. In, with, and under the bread and wine, Christ comes to you personally.

That matters, because families know weakness. Parents lose patience. Children disobey. Guilt hangs on to our hearts. Doubts whisper in our ears. If the Lord’s Supper were only a reminder, it wouldn’t be enough.

We need more than a memory. We need mercy. And that is exactly what Jesus gives.

Paul says we “proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.” Every time your family receives communion, you are confessing something powerful: Jesus’ death counts for us. His victory over sin is ours. His resurrection life strengthens us now. And his return is certain.

In a world full of empty signs and shifting promises, the Lord’s Supper is tangible grace. You can see it. Taste it. Receive it. Christ attaches his promise to something you can hold.

When doubts are loud and hearts are weary, Jesus does not give you a symbol. He gives you himself and he strengthens your family in his victory until the day you feast with him forever.

“For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.”

1 Corinthians 11:26

Family Prayer

Thank you for sending your Son to win the victory over our sin by his death and resurrection. Thank you for giving us more than a reminder of that love. In the Lord’s Supper, you give us Jesus’ true body and blood for the forgiveness of our sins. When we feel guilty, assure us that we are forgiven. When we feel weak, strengthen our faith. When we are impatient or unkind with one another, soften our hearts with the mercy you give us in your Word and at your Table. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
