One a scale of 1-10…
…how overwhelmed are you feeling these days? A new school year brings lots of changes – new schedules, new routines, and new challenges – in just a few short weeks. All those changes can inject chaos into a life that was (hopefully) much more relaxed a few short weeks ago in summer. And chaos can overwhelm even the most prepared parents, children, and families. Sound familiar? I know it does for our family!
So what’s the best solution to battle the overwhelming power of chaos? Is it a more in-depth planner for mom? More timely communication from dad? Regular family meetings for everyone? All of these are solid solutions that can absolutely benefit an overwhelmed family. But there’s an even better solution.
Instead of relying on yourself when life feels overwhelming, rely on the Author of Life himself.
No matter how overwhelming life feels, peace can always be found in Jesus – the Prince of Peace. Through his perfect life, self-sacrificing death, and triumphant resurrection, Jesus achieved true peace between us and God. You can rely on that peace because it’s not based on emotions – it’s a status grounded in Jesus’ saving work. And that kind of peace will remain even if the chaos of life is swirling all around. So, if you’re feeling overwhelmed these days and looking for some kind of peace, look no further than your Savior Jesus!
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
– Philippians 4:6-7
Questions for Kiddos (and parents too!)
For Younger Kids: What’s worrying you the most today? What does God say we should do about our worries in the Bible?
For Older Kids: Brainstorm some physical and spiritual ways you can respond to any anxious thoughts you have this week.
Example 1: Take 3 deep breaths when you feel overwhelmed.
Example 2: Set a reminder on your phone to pray for God’s peace today, maybe while you’re brushing your teeth or on the car/bus ride to school.
