Starting the day with God.

How do your mornings usually start?

Do you wake up early to peacefully wake the sunrise with a steaming cup of coffee? Or does it feel like a starter gun goes off as soon as your feet hit the floor? For many of us, it’s the second way – doubly so if you’ve got kids and it’s a school day!

But in the midst of the hustle and bustle, the half-eaten breakfasts and the traffic jam to get out the door, we’re missing something: an opportunity to start the day with God.

The devil’s good at using hectic morning scrambles, crammed calendars, and overly full days to distract us from the most important part of life – taking time to listen to God in his Word and respond back to him in prayer.

These words from Israel’s greatest king, David, are a great reminder and encouragement to start the day with God. And if you think you run out the door each morning, David wrote this psalm as he was literally running for his life from his enemies. By faith, David knew even in this insane time of his life that God was trustworthy and his love would never fail.

We know that too, because God has proved it to us. He’s worthy of our trust because he kept his greatest promise to send Jesus to save us from our sins. His love never fails as he showers us with blessings each day and has given us the blessing of eternal life with him through faith in Jesus. How much better could your day be if you took the time to remember that each morning? My guess? Infinitely better!

Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in you. Show me the way I should go, for to you I entrust my life. – Psalm 143:8

Try This Out

Find a time during your morning routine where you can read even a single Bible verse with your family. At the breakfast table, while brushing teeth, or at a red light on the way to school. It doesn’t matter where, just find two minutes to start your day with God and ask for his guidance on what lies ahead. Try it today!
