Decisions, decisions…

What are some tough decisions coming up in your family? Maybe a better question would be: why is it so hard to make tough decisions? Well, there could be a few reasons. Tough decisions can have high stakes and a big impact. Tough decisions often involve emotions like love, fear, and guilt. Tough decisions always come with uncertainty since we can’t know the future.

There are some great strategies for making tough choices. Talk through the options as a family and get everyone’s input. Research all the options thoroughly. Make a pros and cons list to systematically weigh the choices. Lean on the advice of a trusted friend. But there’s an even better option.

When you’re making tough decisions, don’t do it in the dark. Make those decisions in the light of what God says in his Word.

No, the Bible isn’t a magic bullet. And no, the Bible probably doesn’t have your exact situation. But it does have timeliness principles from the God whose wisdom and knowledge far outstrips our own. And it reassures us that God blesses whatever decisions we make, as long as they’re made according to his Word and will and are made to bring glory to him.

Family Prayer

Lord, you know all the decisions that we have to make in our family. Draw us to the guidance you offer in your Word. Help us to hear it, read it, and take it to heart so that in all our decisions we may bring glory to your name. In Jesus’ name we pray, amen.
