The ordinary is anything but ordinary.

Most of our days are filled with the ordinary.

Making meals, cleaning rooms, doing homework, going to work, caring for family. All these tasks can feel small, unimportant, and just plain ordinary. They feel like they don’t matter. Because it’s the big, spiritual actions that really matter to God, right? Right??

Actually, God tells us something different. Through the apostle Paul, he reminds us that whatever we do, we glorify him when it’s done from faith and in the name of Jesus.

Because God has made us his children, even ordinary chores become extraordinary opportunities to serve others and glorify him.

It’s important to remember that we don’t please God by doing the chores themselves or by doing them perfectly. God is pleased with us because Jesus already did the perfect work for us. He lived a holy life and died on the cross to save us. Now, as thankful children of God, we serve others in our everyday callings: as parents, children, workers, students, and neighbors.

When we help around the house, do our jobs honestly, and care for one another, God is using us to bless others. The ordinary moments that fill our days become extraordinary moments when done in faith and thanksgiving.

And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. – Colossians 3:17
