Children today grow up in the world that constantly asks, “Who are you?”
The world says, Define yourself. Express yourself. Reinvent yourself. Even for adults, identity can feel fragile, like something you have to build and defend. But at the baptismal font, God establishes a permanent identity for his people.
In baptism, you are buried with Christ and raised with him. That isn’t pretend. That isn’t symbolic. God unites you to Jesus’ real death and real resurrection. The old sinner is drowned. A new creation rises. And God places his name on you: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
The world asks all of us – adults and children – to define ourselves. But God already has: “You are mine.”
Parents, one of your greatest privileges is reminding your children who they already are. When they feel left out, remind them: “You are baptized.” When they feel guilty, remind them: “Jesus washed you.” When they feel pressure to fit in, remind them: “You belong to Christ.”
Baptism anchors us in something unshakable – not feelings, not performance, not popularity – but Christ’s finished work. Because Jesus lives, God’s baptized children live new lives now and have the promise of new life forever in heaven.
From the font to the future, your child’s identity (and your identity!) is secure – buried with Christ, raised with Christ, and forever held in his grace.
We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life. – Romans 6:4

Questions for Younger Kids:
- In baptism, who says, “You are mine”? What does that mean about who you belong to?
- When you feel sad, scared, or guilty, what can you remember about your baptism?
- The world says, “You have to decide who you are.” What does God say about who you are?
Questions for Older Kids:
- Romans 6:4 says we were buried and raised with Christ. What does that mean happened to your “old sinful self” in baptism?
- How does remembering “I am baptized” change the way you handle guilt, peer pressure, or insecurity?
- What’s the difference between building your identity on what others think and building it on what God says in baptism?
